With over 20 years in entrepreneurship, investment, and executive roles, Tory Green has a strong background in technology companies. He spent seven years as a VC at Tiller Partners, supporting portfolio companies as COO, CRO, and CFO. Most recently, he served as COO and CFO at Hum Capital.

Before Tiller, Tory co-founded The Art of Charm, an information-based publishing firm with a Top 50 iTunes ranking and over 2 million downloads per month. He holds a BA in Economics from Stanford University and played football for the United States Military Academy at West Point. Io.net is a decentralised physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that recently closed its Series A, raising $30 million earlier this year.

How does io.net’s consensus mechanism work, and what makes it secure and efficient for decentralised physical infrastructure networks (DePIN)?

Io.net’s consensus mechanism is tailored to support DePIN, optimised for distributed infrastructure like data centres, home devices, and edge nodes.

It combines fast validation with lightweight processes, enabling diverse node participation without high computational demands.

Security is reinforced through cryptographic techniques and node verification, which detect and mitigate malicious actions. This results in a high-performance network suited to varied decentralised physical infrastructures.

How does incorporating edge computing enhance io.net’s performance, and what advantages does it offer users and developers?

Edge computing allows io.net to process data closer to the source, which significantly reduces latency and improves response times, giving users a faster, smoother experience.

For developers, edge computing allows efficient workload distribution, making applications more responsive and scalable, particularly in real-time environments.

This framework also supports demanding use cases like IoT and AI, while reducing central resource dependency, and improving overall network efficiency.

How does io.net achieve interoperability with other blockchain platforms, and what impact does this have on network adoption?

Interoperability is achieved by integrating with robust blockchain platforms like Solana, which was selected for its high throughput and low latency.

Strategic partnerships, like with Chainbase, enhance cross-chain data flow, ensuring reliable decentralised compute power and industry accessibility.

These elements position io.net as a strong alternative to centralised cloud solutions, broadening adoption potential.

What cryptographic methods and security protocols does io.net use to protect data transmission and ensure network integrity?

A multi-layered security approach includes device authentication, cryptographic keys, and periodic node challenges to verify network integrity. Data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, supported by trusted execution environments (TEE).

Partnerships with security-focused organisations and advanced cryptographic algorithms further enhance communication security between nodes, ensuring network protection.

How does the network address scalability, and what strategies help maintain performance as users and devices increase?

The network is built for horizontal scalability, efficiently distributing workloads as more devices connect.

Sharding allows independent processing across network segments, while edge computing processes data closer to its origin, reducing bottlenecks and maintaining optimal performance as the network expands.

What impact do you foresee on DePINs, and what innovations are you excited about bringing to the industry?

The platform is set to shape DePINs by integrating AI with decentralised infrastructure, enabling easier AI deployment for real-time processing, machine learning, and edge analytics.

This could transform industries like healthcare, finance, and logistics by delivering cost-efficiency and improved data security for data-intensive applications.

How have your diverse career experiences shaped your approach to leading io.net, and what insights do you bring?

My background in entrepreneurship and venture capital emphasised resilience and hands-on problem-solving, crucial in a fast-evolving industry. Venture capital taught me to identify scalable opportunities and understand market dynamics.
